Objective:

By the end of this lesson, students will practice and clarify the difference between the Simple Past and Present by discussing past and present events in their lives and the world around them.

Agenda:

  • Time to talk about our daily activities. 

  • Review Simple Past and Present.

  • Comparison of life in the past vs. the present.

  • Describing activities from the past and now.

  • Creative speaking and listening.

  • Listening activity.



Task 1: warm up!

Task 2: Describing Daily Activities - time!

  1. Look at the pictures.

It is a quarter to nine.

Task 5: Past and Present!

  1. Look at these images representing past and present life (e.g., old and modern cars, telephones, or homes). Click HERE

  2. Describe what the people are doing or what the situation is in both images.

  3. Compare the images and talk about what they did in the past and what people do now. Example: 

In the past, people used to write letters. Now, people send emails.


Task 6: Simple Past vs. Present Rules

Task 7: Simple Past vs. Present Rules

  2. Create 5 sentences in the past and 5 sentences in the present. The sentences should be related to the video. What you understood. Example: 

In the past, kids worked when they were five. Now, kids do nor work. They study.

Are parks now bigger or smaller than parks in the past?





Task 10: Second Project! 

  1. For this second project, let’s talk about the past and the present. 

  2. You can choose topics related to technology, food, shopping, childhood, jobs, entertainment… 

  3. You can look on the internet and prepare a short presentation of 3 minutes. 

  4. You will record yourself, and you can show your face or just pictures. 


Example: 

  • In the past, people used to buy things at small local markets or stores.

  • Today, most people buy online, which is faster and easier.

  • Before, shopping took more time, but now we can shop from home with just a click.


Grammar to be used: 

Used to…, simple past (remember the pronunciation of the -ed endings), simple present, comparatives, and superlatives.
