Objective:

During this lesson, we will learn how to effectively communicate during a doctor’s appointment by expressing symptoms and correctly using the verb to be.

Task 1: Discuss


  1. Let’s discuss these questions in the main room: 

Is exercise important for your health? 

What do you do to stay healthy? 

Do you include exercise in your routine? 

Do you think food is important? Do you have a special diet? 




Task 2: Vocabulary: Parts of the body

  1. Please, click HERE, so together we can identify the parts of a body. 

  2. Then, discuss these questions: 

Do your feet hurt after walking?

How do you feel better when your stomach hurts?

Does your neck hurt after working? Have you ever had a stiff neck?


  Task 3: Grammar: Feel, Look + Adjective


  1. Let’s discuss these questions in the main room:

What do you do when you do not feel good?

When do you go to the doctor?

How can we prevent some illnesses?

Task 4: What’s happening?

1. We are going to watch a video, and we are going to discuss these questions: 

What is happening? 

Where are the patient and the doctor? 

How is John Burke feeling? What are the symptoms? 

What does the doctor think? 


2. Write down some useful questions we can ask to know how a person is feeling.

  1. Take a look at these pictures, and answer the questions:

What’s the problem?

How does she/he feel?

I have a headache, what should I do? 

When you have a headache, should you take a pain reliever? 

When you have a cough, should you take cough medicine?

  1. Let’s pretend you are not feeling well, so you decide to go to the doctor. One of you is going to be the patient and the other one the doctor, so please take turns to practice the different roles. Please, write down your symptoms, and how you are feeling.
