Task 1: International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)
The system used to transcribe the sounds of languages is called the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). This system provides a standardized notation to represent the sounds of any language.
In the IPA, each symbol represents a phoneme, which is the smallest unit of sound in a language. Phonemes are the distinctive sounds that, when changed, can alter the meaning of a word (for example, in English, changing the phoneme /p/ to /b/ in the word "pat" changes the meaning to "bat").
